New Wave consists of various activities around skateboarding and skateboarding culture, organized by and for queers and women.
During New Wave events we create a safe and fun environment for women and queers. New Wave is all about being yourself, being with each other and having fun together in the skatepark. The activities are for skaters of all levels. Is it your first time? You can always ask our team for help.
New Wave was founded in 2019 in Rotterdam. A few weeks later, the first skate sessions followed in Amsterdam. In the following years, we expanded with collaborations in Nijmegen, Eindhoven and Breda. The activities are organized by small local teams of volunteers.

HOW DID WSTW COME INTO BEING?
In 2018, Amber Edmondson and Nanja van Rijsse met during a volunteer trip to Palestine where they taught skateboarding to local youth. During this trip, the idea arose to start an organization to introduce more girls to skateboarding. We did this by asking for more attention for representation in the international skate scene and by focusing on skate lessons that put the wishes and experiences of girls first.
Our first girls skate program was implemented in collaboration with FreeMovementSB in Athens, Project Fearless in Amsterdam and SkatePal in Palestine. In 2020 we started an independent program in Amsterdam Zuidoost. These Skate & Create lessons were accessible to all children, where we translated themes such as 'taking up space and giving it to each other' into literal practice in the skate park. Also in 2020 the very first editions of NEW WAVE started in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
In the following years we expanded our activities, collaborated with skate parks throughout the Netherlands and professionalized the organization, with the icing on the cake being the opening of our own skate park in early 2023.
