Queer Art Youth

A group exhibition featuring young talent with an LGBTQIA+ background, taking place in the PLAY room from October 18th to October 27th, 2024. The idea for this exhibition arose after the Queer Art exhibition at 't Weefhuis in October 2023. While seasoned artists often find their way through the labyrinth of contemporary art, young artists, in particular, can benefit from support in navigating the art scene.

This year, special attention will be given to young queer artists, not only by offering them a platform to showcase their work to the Zaan community for a weekend but also by providing mentorship. Experienced artists will share tips and tricks with the rising talents.

The PLAY room on Westzijde was chosen as the venue due to its welcoming atmosphere in the heart of Zaandam. It has previously supported young talent during its five-year existence. The exhibition is organized by De Zaanse Regenboog, Paarse Vrijdag Krant, and the art gallery PLAY room. Participating artists include Fenne, Sam van der Krol, David de Lange, Flynt Prins, and Kay Slee.

The opening event will take place on Friday, October 25th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with live music by Mees and Janine and DJ Lizzy. The opening speech will be delivered by the Alderman for Inclusivity in Zaanstad, Mr. Gerard Slegers. Both the exhibition and the opening event are free to attend, and everyone is welcome.

Queer Art YouthEen groepsexpositie jong talent met een lhbtiqa+ achtergrond in PLAY room van 18 t/m 27 oktober 2024. Het idee voor de expositie is ontstaan na de Queer Art expositie in ‘t Weefhuis afgelopen oktober 2023. De ‘oude rotten’ vinden hun weg wel in het labyrint van de hedendaagse kunst, terwijl juist jongeren ondersteuning kunnen gebruiken bij het wegwijs worden in de kunst-scene.

Daarom willen we dit jaar speciaal aandacht schenken aan ‘young queer artists’ ; niet alleen door ze een weekend lang een podium te geven om hun kunsten te tonen aan het Zaanse publiek. Maar ook met een mentorschap; ervaren kunstenaars geven tips en trucs aan de aanstormende talenten.

En er is gekozen voor PLAY room op de Westzijde als locatie, omdat het een prachtige laagdrempelige locatie is in het centrum van Zaandam. Daarnaast hebben ze in haar vijf jarig bestaan eerder jong talent op weg geholpen. De expositie wordt georganiseerd door De Zaanse Regenboog, Paarse Vrijdag Krant en de kunstgalerie PLAY room. Deelnemende kunstenaars zijn: Fenne, Sam van der Krol, David de Lange, Flynt Prins en Kay Slee

De opening is op vrijdag 25 oktober van 18 t/m 21 uur en wordt muzikaal ingeleid door Mees en Janine met als toegift DJ Lizzy. Het openingswoord wordt gehouden door de Wethouder van Inclusiviteit in Zaanstad, de heer Gerard Slegers. De expositie en opening zijn vrij toegankelijk en iedereen is welkom.
