Lecture: Theo van der Meer
Dear dear Kees. Oh, the last kiss I gave to you is still in my soul' , wrote Jan van Zaanen in 1826 to a man in Amsterdam.
During his lecture ' The illustrious history of homosexuality in the Netherlands in the early modern period (1670-1830) ' , speaker Theo van der Meer takes you through 400 years of homosexual history. He takes these personal stories like those of Jan and Kees and places them in a historical context.

About Theo van der Meer
Theo van der Meer (1950) studied Dutch at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD cum laude from the law faculty of the Vrije Universiteit in 1995 with the dissertation Sodom's Seed in the Netherlands . He has published several books and dozens of articles – also in English and German – about the infamous sodomite persecutions in the Netherlands in the eighteenth century.
In 2007 he published a biography of Jhr. Mr. Dr. JA Schorer, founder of the first Dutch gay organization, the NWHK (1912-1940). He is now working on completing a biography about PJ Meertens, best known as Anton Beerta from the extensive novel Het Bureau by Han Voskuil.
