Desire - Louis Janssens

Desire takes place in the transition from night to day, from dark to light. The moment when the possibilities become visible. What thoughts and doubts are at play during this so-called blue hour ? The performance is exactly at that moment of unfulfilled desires, and the urge to be able to start permanently, without ending or getting anywhere.

With a newly written text as a starting point, Louis Janssens is on stage together with three actors. Four lonely souls take us into their personal thoughts, doubts, fears and desires. They share what they normally wouldn't dare to show each other. In Desire they do, only to discover that they are actually quite similar in that respect. Biographical experiences are intertwined with snapshots about universal forms of love, the history of the gay bar and the energy of friendship. They talk, stammer, sing and move restlessly across the empty stage.

Desireis such a moving performance about the desire to experience something. To be loved, to be touched. The universal desire for connection is made tangible in a playful and personal way. The audience is taken into a recognizable and intimate world of thought.

After the solo performance Serenade (selected for #nieuwjong of Het TheaterFestival 2021) and the duet Analogue with Willem de Wolf/De HOE, Louis Janssens now creates the performance Desire with a group of young queer players . It is the next step in creating performances that manage to depict a poetic and intimate, as well as joyful and playful world.
