Sexyland - Indie in Town

"Indie in Town" is an evening for fans of cool new live bands and experimental art. Since 2017, we've provided a stage for artists and musicians in both Amsterdam and London. "Indie in Town" features acts that are innovative, young, and simply awesome. These acts could soon break through, alongside acts that have already proven themselves in the Netherlands. At "Indie in Town Sexyland," you can expect visual arts, bands, singer-songwriters, and a DJ collective: enough to make you go wild for an evening and discover new music and art. Indie music is characterized by its experimental sounds. Three danceable electro bands will be playing at Sexyland, as well as a singer-songwriter. The female & non-binary DJ collective "Aan Tafel" will seamlessly connect the evening's events and give Sexyland its own unique flair with their decoration.
A few things we aim to achieve: - be a crucial link in the professional career of an emerging band/artist. Through tactical programming, targeted promotion, and branding, we ensure a full house. -Create a connecting place for indie enthusiasts, where you can spend the entire evening. The indie genre is characterized by its attitude: a love for experiment and innovation. This evening is important for the indie scene because many organizations in the city set up band nights focused on pop music or talent development. - Program diversely, paying attention in our programming to breaking the status quo. - Expose our audience to innovative visual art and experimental music. In doing so, we also want to promote collaborations between visual art and music.
Housepainters
“The Amsterdam-based three piece finds itself on a middle ground between wave, disco and dub merging into gloomy yet upbeat tunes. Repetitive electronic rhythms and wavy vocals drenched in echoes. The first 7” single, ‘Fixed Position’, was released on Swiss label Bongo Joe Records. Their full length debut album is expected in spring 2024. Housepainters is Anna Fleuri, Tom Ogivlie and Marnix Wilmink.

Parker Fans
“Parker Fans are an Amsterdam indie boogie three-way bromance, made for the later slots in the
stickier clubs. Frontman Kick Kluiving lays out his deceptively intricate urban mini-tragedies (and
comedies) over a deceptively simple foundation of drum samples, bass guitar and synthesizer.
The result is a sleek live act that convinces both as a sing-along spectacle and as an unobtrusive
backdrop for your own escapades. A self-titled EP came out in 2023. Did we mention you can
dance to them? You can dance to Parker Fans. It’s very easy in fact!”

“Kaya is an artist based on the words and sounds of Juyane Kaya. She creates a
bittersweet ocean of songs about depression, love, ego, family, and religion. Writing thesesongs provides her solace and helps her process unpleasant thoughts. Inspired by artistslike Elliott Smith, Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief), and Ben Howard, she tells her own story,navigating deep waters and striving to find a sense of belonging in “The Belly of theWhale.” It’s a place where her songs foster unity among her audience and leave them witha grounded feeling. Currently, she is working on her debut EP titled “The Belly of theWhale”

Indie in Town is een avond voor liefhebbers van toffe nieuwe live bands en experimentele kunst. Sinds 2017 geven we een podium aan kunstenaars en muzikanten, in Amsterdam en Londen. Op Indie in Town staan acts die vernieuwend, jong en gewoon retegoed zijn. Deze acts zouden binnenkort kunnen doorbreken, naast acts die zich al hebben bewezen in Nederland. Op Indie in Town Sexyland kan je beeldende kunst, bands, singer songwriters en een DJ-collectief verwachten: genoeg om een avond uit je dak te gaan en nieuwe muziek en kunst te ontdekken. Indie muziek laat zich kenmerken door de experimentele sounds. Er spelen drie dansbare electro bands in Sexyland, een singersongwriter. Female & non-binair DJ-collectief Aan Tafel draait de avond aan elkaar en steekt Sexyland met aankleding in hun eigen jasje.
Enkele dingen die wij graag willen: - een belangrijke schakel zijn in de professionele carrière van een opkomende band/artiest. Middels tactische programmering, gerichte promotie en branding zorgen wij voor een volle zaal. -Een verbindende plek creëren voor de indie liefhebber, waar je de hele avond uit kan. Voor de indie scene is deze avond belangrijk, omdat veel organisaties in de stad band avonden oprichten die gericht zijn op popmuziek of op talentontwikkeling. - Divers programmeren, waarbij we in de programmering willen letten op het verbreken van de status quo. - Ons publiek blootstellen aan vernieuwende visuele kunst en experimentele muziek. Zo willen we ook samenwerkingen tussen visuele kunst en muziek bevorderen.
